The outlook for the global economy has slightly improved since the WTO’s most recent trade forecast in October last year. However, the pace of trade expansion in 2023 is still expected to be below an average level because of the ongoing war in Ukraine, high inflation, tighter monetary policy, and financial uncertainty. The COVID-19 pandemic has been for almost 2 years. As a consequence, the human cost during the pandemic has been notable; as of January 7, 2022, total cases of COVID-19 have been almost 300 million by which the deaths have been around 5.47 million. However, in the act of fighting against such disease, as of January 5, more than 9.1 billion vaccine doses have been scattered globally. In regard to the economic impact, it has been significant, affecting almost every sector, including the civil aviation. In 2020, global airline losses were around $137 billion; though, such losses have been reduced to around $51 billion in 2021, reflecting significant recovery. The Sub-Saharan Africa’s economic recovery surprised on the increase in the last half of 2021. This made a significant revision in the estimated growth last year to 4.5 percent, from 3.7 percent. Nevertheless, such increase has been impacted particularly by the invasion of Russia in Ukraine.
